I’ve spent the past eight years living and working in China, building my career in education while fully immersing myself in the language and culture. I speak Mandarin and use it in my daily life and professional work, which allows me to connect meaningfully with students, families, and partners on the ground.

As a teacher here, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Chinese students and families, not only supporting their academic growth but also sharing the positive sides of America — its diversity, openness, creativity, and spirit of innovation. In my classroom, cultural exchange isn’t abstract; it’s personal. Students ask questions, share perspectives, and begin to see each other as people, not stereotypes.

I believe the strongest relationships are built face-to-face. Real understanding doesn’t happen from a distance — it happens through shared experiences, conversations, and time spent in community. Helping young people experience each other’s cultures firsthand is, to me, the truest way to build friendship and understanding.
